Secret #3: Coaching Leadership in Autonomous Teams

Today I want to share with you secret number 3: what coaching leadership looks like in autonomous teams.

I realize that the term "coaching" is so frequently used that we've all started to try to do something with it. It's good, we need it, but in practice, we need to be careful how we use it.

A word of caution: if your teams are just starting out, don't practice this type of leadership. In the initial phase, lead directly. Then, test the waters, see if you can move to the next level: coaching leadership, and implement it only when your people are ready.

What does coaching leadership look like:

  • Provide the team with more autonomy in decision-making and work planning.

  • Encourage the team to ask questions and explore creative solutions.

  • Offer constructive feedback that focuses on improvement, not criticism.

  • Recognize and reward the team's achievements to motivate them to continue putting in effort.

How do you feel about this type of leadership for your company? Write your response by replying to this message.
